Artist’s bio
Louis Stettner (1922-2016) was born in Brooklyn, New York. He began taking pictures with a box camera that his father gave him and at age 18 Stettner became a combat photographer in Europe, the South Pacific, and Japan. The artist spent time in Paris in the 1950s-1960s, returning to New York City to teach in the 70s.
Stettner's work is in many private and public collections including: the Art Institute of Chicago, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the International Center of Photography, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Whitney Museum of Art, among others.
