Shigeichi Nagano was born in Japan in 1925. A graduate in economics, Nagano planned on a desk job until a chance meeting with an old friend who hired Nagano as an editor for a new magazine. In 1949, Nagano worked freelance and traveled all over Japan, taking pictures. From 1954 he worked on a series: The Five O’clock Salaryman (1959). In 1960 he received the Photographer of the Year award from the Japan Photo Critics Association and the Ina Nobuo Award in 1986.
