A contemporary color photograph by Roberta Fineberg, the image is an homage to great Italian cinema of the 1960s, capturing French actor Alain Delon and Italian actress Claudia Cardinale in a film classic The Leopard directed by Luchino Visconti.

In the film Prince Don Fabrizio Salina (played by Burt Lancaster) supports the decision of his nephew Tancredi (Alain Delon) to marry the stunning Angelica (Claudia Cardinale), daughter to a nouveau riche, in order to maintain the aristocratic family's political power.

The photograph reframes the passion between Delon and Cardinale within 4 quadrants, the image itself in a sign of a cross. The portrait of the lovers is a nod to history, change, loss, and progress during the Risorgimento in Sicily, Italy.

Mixed Emotions, 2018 by Roberta Fineberg is a 17” x 24” archival pigment print on Japanese rice paper in an edition of 5. Signed, titled, dated by the artist.
