Painter of the imaginary, French contemporary artist Jean-Francois (Cesare) De Bus uses exploding color and cartoonish characters to render figures and symbolic objects across time. The artist's paintings and works on paper are like graphic novels waiting to be read, deciphered, and decoded. The work, 23.6" x 31.5" (sheet size) | 16.5" x 30" (image size), is an archival pigment print from a large painting scanned and output on 300g watercolor paper, in an edition of 25, titled and hand-signed by the artist on front in margin.
The composition of De Bus's Le Belle Ete (A Beautiful Summer), 2020 encourages viewers to look deeper into the the layers of bright color for both historical and imaginary references. The great wheel of time - with its arc of birth and death across the ages - remains a central theme in De Bus's art.
