Avalon Bay, 2022 by Bai (Carl Karni-Bain) is a 12.5” x 10.5” contemporary acrylic and ballpoint pen painting on board. It is signed on recto (front) by the African American artist. Titled on verso (back of painting). Ships matted/framed: 19.5” x 17.5”

Provenance: studio of Bai

The painting celebrates Avalon on the rocky coast of Santa Catalina Island, in the California Channel Islands, and the southernmost city in Los Angeles County. Avalon, associated with mystical practices and magical figures such as King Arthur's sorceress sister, remains a resort town.

In the artist's words:

"Colour becomes symbols I use to reflect emotional stages that humans experience – reds for the violent past, blues, greens for the peace to come, and yellow and oranges for the bright future ahead. The latter is not guaranteed in my paintings. However, I think it is attainable in life." ~Carl Karni-Bain (BAI), Harlem, New York City
